Iván Ríjos has distinguished himself in international competition, performance and teaching. His awards include the Pro Musicis International Award, the Gold Medal at La Casa de Espańa Guitar Competition, First Prize at the Alhambra International Guitar Competition, and First Place in the Gold Competition of the Great Lakes Festival.
Ríjos is frequently invited to perform as soloist with internationally known orchestras in London, Boston, Spain, Greece and Puerto Rico. A sought after performer, Ríjos considers playing for Segovia in the Maestro's last master class one of his most challenging moments. Recent performances include the world-premiere recording of Ernesto Cordero's Concierto de Bayoán with the San Juan Pops Philharmonic Orchestra.
A graduate of the Puerto Rico Conservatory, Ríjos studied at Peabody and earned a master's degree in music at the University of Arizona, where he won the firt Il Magnifico Award for artistic achievement. Recently he completed a Fulbright year in Spain studying
